Hansel and Gretel : Math ASL Storytelling

In this ASL retelling of “Hansel and Gretel,” math ideas are woven straight into the story. Watch for counting breadcrumbs, comparing snack sizes, and mapping the children’s path through the forest, great practice with addition, measurement, and spatial thinking.

Try it together:

  1. Pause & Predict – Before each math moment, ask, “How many crumbs do you think are left?”

  2. Bring It to Life – Use cereal pieces as your own “breadcrumbs” and count or group them by twos and fives.

  3. Map Making – After the video, sketch a simple map of the forest and label distances (“3 steps,” “2 meters”) in ASL and English.

This clip strengthens both Word Smart (storytelling) and Logic Smart (problem-solving) while keeping learning fun and visual.
